Policy, Infrastructure, Law and Economics Issues: Mr. Anders Berntell, Executive Director
Mr. Anders Berntell has been Executive Director of SIWI since February 2002. A biologist by training, he is knowledgeable about overall water issues and international development cooperation. Under his stewardship SIWI has grown into a respected independent, international institution.
Natural resources and environmental management, physical planning and infrastructure development: Mr. Per Bertilsson, Deputy Executive Director
Mr. Per Bertilsson joined SIWI in September 2009. He brings 30 years of experience working with natural resources and environmental management, policy formulation and infrastructure development in a wide range of sectors.
Food, Environment, and Water Scarcity Issues: Ms. Malin Falkenmark, Professor
Prof. Falkenmark is an outstanding environmental scientist and synthesiser with interest in the linkages between humans, land and water, particularly as they relate to water scarcity in developing countries.
Food, Biofuels and Ecosystem Trade Off Issues: Mr. Jan Lundqvist, Professor and Chair, Scientific Programme Committee
Prof. Lundqvist has studied the close links between society and natural resources, both in the North and South.
Sanitation, Health and Capacity Building Issues: Ms. Cecilia Martinsen, Project Director, World Water Week
Ms. Martinsen directs the World Water Week and Prizes. Her areas of expertise are business administration, marketing, humanitarian aid management and water, sanitation and hygiene issues., Ms. Martinsen is fluent in English, Spanish and French.
Economics, Governance and Gender issues. Dr. Håkan Tropp, Project Director, UNDP Water Governance Facility
Dr. Tropp’s areas of expertise are water governance, reform, implementation, financing and NGO involvement in urban environmental issues.
Infrastructure, Development Financing, Transboundary Water Resources Management, Energy issues and the Environment: Mr. Jakob Granit, Project Director, SIWI Projects
Mr. Granit is a water resources management specialist with extensive work experience in Eastern and Southern Africa, Europe and the US with over 15 years experience working with transboundary water resources management and development.
Water Management, Cooperation and Conflict over Water Resources, Virtual Water, Southern and Eastern Africa Issues, Education and training: Mr. Anton Earle, Project Director Capacity Building
Mr Earle’s areas of expertise cover transboundary water management, water governance institutions, hydro-politics and water-food-energy nexus.
Climate, Rights and Swedish Resource Base Issues: Ms. Karin Lexén, Project Director, Swedish Water House
Ms. Karin Lexén is a skilled director with expertise in leadership, network and bridge building, as well as international environmental politics and advocacy.
Urban, Business and Industry Issues: Prof. Per-Arne Malmqvist, Scientific Director
Prof. Malmqvist has more than 35 years of experience in the sanitary engineering field, both the private sector and the academic world.
Water Supply, Sanitation and Governance Issues: Mr. Alastair Morrison, Project Manager, UNDP Water Governance Facility
Mr. Morrison is a hydrologist with a focus in water supply, sanitation and governance in developing countries. His experience also includes humanitarian and recovery operations, and managing environmental impacts, such as floods, drainage and other climate-related issues.
