Prof. Jan Lundqvist
Prof. Jan Lunqvist is a globally renowned expert on diverse water topics. Of particular interest to Prof. Lundqvist is the food, water, land-use and policy nexus. He currently works at the Stockholm International Water Institute as a Senior Scientific Advisor and as Chair of the Scientific Programme Committee for the World Water Week in Stockholm.
Through decades of leading research, including 100 publications, Prof. Lundqvist has extensive experience and networks within academia, the UN system, bi-lateral programs, the NGO and private sectors. He is frequently invited as guest lecturer and speaker at Universities and international forums and interviewed by Swedish and global media.
Previous Experience
Prof. Lundqvist diverse experience includes leading research projects in Tanzania, Kenya, Malawi, the Sudan, Egypt, Middle East, Southern Africa, Sri Lanka, India, Brazil, Norway and Sweden.
Prof. Lundqvist worked as a senior lecturer and associated professor at the Universities of Bergen and Oslo. In 1980, he continued his academic career as a professor at the Department of Water and Environmental Studies at Linköping University in Sweden. There he also was the Head of Department from 1983 -1986 and from 1993 -1996.
He has served as a board member of the Water Research Fund for Southern Africa, a member of the Scientific Committee for Stockholm Water Symposium (both 1998-2003) and as a vice-president of the International Water Resources Association (IWRA).

Professional Affiliations, Registrations and Honours
Prof. Lundqvist is a founding member of Universities’ Partnership on Transboundary Waters. He serves on the Editorial Board of Water International and Journal of Urban Studies and the International Journal of Hydrological Research (IJHR). He also is a member of the Royal Academy of Agriculture and Forestry, Sweden and of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel (STAP) list of experts of the Global Environment Facility. He is Chairperson of the Scientific Programme Committee for the World Water Week in Stockholm and regularly lectures at a number of universities and institutions in Europe and Asia.
