Ms. Karin Lexén
Ms. Karin Lexén is a skilled director with expertise in international environmental politics and advocacy. In 2007, she became the Project Director for the Swedish Water House initiative. As Project Director, Ms. Lexén applies her extensive talent and training in leadership, networking, and bridge building to forge productive cooperation between Swedish-based, internationally oriented academic institutions, consultants, government agencies, NGOs, research institutes and other stakeholders. The Swedish Water House supports international policy development and co-operation through knowledge generation and dissemination and partnership building primarily within the fields of sustainable river basin management and integrated water resources management.
Previous Experience
Ms. Lexén has been working with global environmental issues both in Sweden and internationally for 20 years. Before joining SIWI, she was the International Policy Director for the Church of Sweden where she was led a policy unit staff of 17 people. There, her responsibilities ranged from global analysis, policy creation, opinion building, to dialogue with decision makers on issues such as the environment, global economy, human rights and conflict management. Her position included many international engagements with positions on several international boards. At the Swedish Ministry of the Environment, she worked closely with climate change and water governance issues at regional and global negotiations. This work included coordinating government bills and agreements while navigating complex political processes. She has also worked with the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and Stockholm University performing research and analysis on the large scale environmental consequences created by organic pollutants.

- Created mutual learning opportunities for members of parliament with trips to Mozambique, Zambia and Israel/Palestine
- Led, organised and convened international and Swedish network activities
- Organized and convened numerous hearings and workshops on development cooperation policies and environmental policy
- Strong experience and skill in team building and strategic processes
- Head of delegation for regional marine conventions negotiations for the Ministry of the Environemnt
