Regional Development in the Euphrates-Tigris Region

This training programme provides advanced learning and a meeting place for professionals involved in water issues in the Euphrates-Tigris region. It aims to build personal and institutional bridges and to discuss scientific options for sharing the benefits generated by sustainable water development in the region. The programme draws on cases of large scale water resources development from different regions and discusses administrative frameworks and novel techniques to enhance the role of water in regional development. The potential effects of future climate change conditions on water resources and development will be presented and discussed.

The training helps participants identify the advantages of collaborative transboundary water management strategies and improves their ability to apply these strategies in their respective organisations. The programme also provides a meeting place for professionals involved in transboundary water issues in the MENA region and develops both personal and institutional bridges between them. Transboundary Water Management for the Lake Victoria Region
In Rwanda, October 25 – November 5, 2010
In Sweden, February 20 – 25, 2011
The overall objective of the programme is to strengthen institutions for transboundary water management in the Lake Victoria region. Education offerd by this course is for sustainable development in a river basin context: including case studies from different lake and river basins of the world such as the Baltic Sea and the Mekong River. The contents also includes a field visit to the Kagera River and developing transboundary water commissions like the Nile Basin Initiative.
