There are many buzzwords livening up the World Water Week’s deliberations. One of them was certainly the term “innovation.” Innovation can take different shapes: innovations in social entrepreneurship, technological solutions, financing and policy frameworks. To give a more concrete example, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation just recently announced they will support an innovative “Future Toilet”. The project challenged inventors to come up with a toilet that operated without running water, electricity or a septic system, according to the BBC. While the World Water Week in itself is not a fair for displaying water-related inventions or technology, discussions around such innovations were present during different sessions at the week. The Stockholm Industry Water Award was granted to PepsiCo for their innovative approaches to improving the world’s water situation. Other events discussed innovations in agriculture, urban design, and climate change adaptation. At the 2012 World Water Week, the solutions of tomorrow were met already today.
