This August, the winners of national competitions from 28 countries will compete for the prestigious international Stockholm Junior Water Prize.
The international Stockholm Junior Water Prize finale will be held during the 2012 World Water Week in Stockholm, August 26-31, the leading annual meeting place for the planet’s most important water-related issues. Competing projects will be on display at the World Water Week exhibition hall, where each finalist will be interviewed by a committee of international water experts. The 2012 Prize will be presented by H.R.H Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden on August 28 during a ceremony at Stockholm International Fairs.
Each year, thousands of young participants enter national Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) competitions in over 30 countries. The finalists this year are the winners of national contests, which were selected from a field of thousands submitted projects worldwide. Finalists will represent the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Belarus, Canada, Chile, China, Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Ghana, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, Singapore, Slovak Republic, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom, Ukraine, USA and Vietnam.
About the Stockholm Junior Water Prize Competition
The competition is open to young people between 15-20 years of age, who have conducted water-related projects focusing on local, regional, national or global topics of environmental, scientific, social or technological importance. As a result of the competitions, thousands of young people around the world develop personal interests, undertake academic study, and often pursue careers in the water or environmental fields.
The international winner receives a USD 5,000 award and a prize sculpture. The Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) administers the competition, which is sponsored globally by Xylem.
H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden is the Patron of the Stockholm Junior Water Prize.
