Partnerships
Building long-term institutional relationships with leading stakeholders and actors in the water, environment and development fields are a crucial component of SIWI’s work.

SIWI and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
In August 2006, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), South Africa, and SIWI entered a Memorandum of Understanding which aims to foster knowledge creation that leads to concrete water-driven social, economic and environmental improvements. SIWI and CSIR seek to develop cooperative opportunities in water policy, water governance, transboundary water resource management, and water-resource based socio-economic development. The activities are intended to be placed within the general context of MDG-attainment as well as more specific objectives outlined by the New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD).

SIWI and the Global Water Partnership (GWP)
SIWI actively collaborates with the Global Water Partnership, a working partnership among all those involved in water management: government agencies, public institutions, private companies, professional organisations, multilateral development agencies and others committed to the Dublin-Rio principles. GWP, whose mission is to "support countries in the sustainable management of their water resources”, actively identifies critical knowledge needs at global, regional and national levels, helps design programs for meeting these needs, and serves as a mechanism for alliance building and information exchange on integrated water resources management. In addition to sharing office space with SIWI in Stockholm, GWP has for example arranged its Consultative Group (CG) meetings during the World Water Week in Stockholm on a bi-annual basis.

SIWI and the International Water Association (IWA)
The International Water Association (IWA) and SIWI have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding to further develop and evolve their already strong partnership and working relationship by optimizing reciprocal arrangements at key events, identifying programming indicative of and conducive to enhanced collaboration, and conducting joint communication efforts. One specific area of collaboration will be centred around the annual World Water Week in Stockholm and the biennial World Water Congress. Reciprocal arrangements related to the respective meetings will acknowledge and build on technical and policy trends over time, so that an institutional archive of issues and some degree of longitudinal analysis can be built into these events’ respective programmes.

SIWI and UN-Water
UN-Water was endorsed as the new official United Nations mechanism for follow-up of the water-related decisions reached at the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development and the Millennium Development Goals. It will support Member States in their efforts to achieve water and sanitation goals and targets. Since 2004 SIWI has partnered with UN-Water by hosting UN-Water’s annual meeting during the World Water Week in Stockholm.

SIWI and the Water Environment Federation (WEF)
SIWI and the Stockholm Water Foundation have since the 1990s had a unique partnership with the Water Environment Federation (WEF). Formed in 1928, the WEF is a not-for-profit technical and educational organization with more than 34,000 individual members and 81 affiliated Member Associations representing an additional 50,000 water quality professionals throughout the world. WEF has been a Founder of the Stockholm Water Prize since the mid-1990s and also has served as the national organiser for the Stockholm Junior Water Prize in the USA. SIWI and the Water Integrity Network (WIN)
SIWI is a founding member of the Water Integrity Network (WIN), an international network which promotes solutions-oriented action and coalition-building between civil society, the public and private sectors, media and governments on anti-corruption measures. WIN will help to influence national and international policy by providing information and anti-corruption tool kits to governments, companies, regulators and non-governmental groups. The network’s core work will include diagnosing the problems, proposing solutions, building capacity and monitoring progress. A fund for civil society activities in developing countries is also envisioned to help develop effective local anti-corruption coalitions. In addition to serving on the WIN steering committee, SIWI has collaborated with WIN on the production of a number of cutting-edge reports and policy briefs on the issue of anti-corruption in the water sector.
