2007 Synthesis Report: Progress and Prospects on Water – Striving for Sustainability in a Changing World

A sense of optimism pervaded the 2007 World Water Week in Stockholm because of some progress on most water-related fronts. However, pessimism held court as well since the serious gravity of the world’s water, environment and human development crises. Those 2,500 experts and some 140 organisations assembled, discussed and delved deeper into an array of issues – from bioenergy to water rights – via nearly 80 separate sessions. Their conclusions and recommendations as summarised in this report should be taken to heart and used to jump start action.
