This textbook stresses the whole terrestrial part of the hydrological cycle, and gives as much attention to the return pathways of transpiration and groundwater flow as to stream flow. It is concerned also with the role of water as a solvent, and as a means of transport of sediment, nutrients and pollutants. While it is not a guidebook in the sense of recommending specific techniques or models, the text should provide guidance on the hydrologic processes which are likely to be critical in a particular environment.
