The World Water Week is, as it says, about water. It focuses on the role of water in our lives, from the daily needs of the individual human being, animal or plant, to the long term survival of our globe. As such the World Water Week is concerned with the water-related challenges of the poorest and hungry billion people in the developing countries for whom every day is a challenge to survive, as well as with the role of water in ensuring the long term sustainability and well-being of a rapidly growing world population with increasing demands for food, energy and other essentials. These challenges translate into a continuous stream of world crises financial crises, food crises, energy crises etc all of which risk to be fuelled by the impacts of climate change, and all of which have strong water dimensions.’
