This is a paper based on a workshop on environmental journalism during the World Water Week in 2001. The aim of the workshop was to highlight the importance of journalism in raising awareness about environmental and development issues to authorities, decision makers, NGOs and the public, and to promote the exchange of experiences and contacts between journalist from Lake Victoria and the Baltic Sea regions and strengthen the position of the free press.
