Business models as a tool to strengthen River Basin Organisations

Many of the principles and best practice approaches found in the business world are also applicable to other areas, such as government, NGOs, non-profit organizations and societies. This assumption served as the starting point for a recent study carried out by SIWI. The project investigated how business models can be used as a tool to help River Basin Organisations carry out their mandate more effectively. Such models can present the organizations with frameworks for creating economic, social, and environmental value in a shared watercourse context.

The project, which is supported by GTZ and carried out in collaboration with The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in South Africa, aims to support Transboundary Water Management in the SADC region.
