On May 23 at 14:30, SIWI’s Chair Peter Forssman will announce both the Stockholm Water Prize Laureate and the Stockholm Industry Water Award Winner during the event “Cities and Green Growth – Urban Evolution” at Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre. The event is organised by City of Stockholm, OECD, Stockholm Business Region and a number of other actors.

H.R.H Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden will open the seminar, which also features Mayor of Stockholm Sten Nordin, Swedish Minister for the Environment Lena Ek, as well as international and Swedish policy makers, business leaders and experts. Seats are still available, register here!

Årets Vattenskola will be announced at 14:30-15:00 at a public event in Kungsträdgården in Stockholm, organised by Tekniklyftet and Vetenskapens Hus. The event takes place at 11:00-16:00 and will include entertainment, several award ceremonies, as well as an exhibition. If you are in Stockholm, come by Kungsträdgården to mingle with us at the SIWI booth and take part in the celebration!

The UN World Water Day on March 22 has become an important moment for actors around the world to advocate the sustainable management of freshwater resources. This year, hundreds of events were held worldwide to raise awareness on water issues. Here in Stockholm, the Swedish Water House at SIWI marked the occasion with a seminar that brought together the leading minds and organisations working with water in Sweden, including the Global Water Partnership, FAO Nordic office, UNDP Sweden, UNEP Sweden, Swedish National Commission for UNESCO and Water Aid.

Water is among the most shared resource on earth. Over 260 watersheds are shared by two or more states, and 40% of the world’s population shares critical water supplies with another country. The seminar thus aims to mark the 2013 Year of Water Cooperation by discussing tools, approaches and mechanisms that advance global transboundary water cooperation.

SIWI’s Anders Jägerskog will partake in a panel discussion together with representatives from The Global Environment Facility, the World Bank and UNDP.

The seminar’s objective is to draw attention to pertinent issues related to international water cooperation: what are the challenges to be addressed and what are the immediate actions to be taken in order to favour water cooperation?

To contribute to UNESCO’s work in addressing the global challenges through water programmes, the Swedish Government has proposed the establishment of a new UNESCO Category II International Centre on Water Cooperation, taking opportunity of Sweden’s long term international engagement in this field.

The outcome of the event will be further discussed during the World Water Week in Stockholm, 1-6 September 2013.

Dr. Tropp is taking part in a session focusing on progress in achieving and implementing water governance targets. He will hold a presentation on information, transparency and accountability in the water sector, and participate in a panel discussion.

SIWI is a member of the OECD Initiative on Water Governance, which is a multi-stakeholder network and policy platform to advance on the global water governance agenda.

The seminar will focus on water cooperation and specifically cross-sectoral collaboration between the private sector, the public sector and the scientific community. The seminar includes speeches from experts within the water community as well as private sector representatives.
