SIWI takes part in the water dialogue at the 2013 Budapest Water Summit

The 2013 Budapest Water Summit, held between 8 and 11 October, aims to take stock of the various developments, within and outside the UN System, in preparing for an overarching Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) on water and sanitation.

During these four days governments, international organisations, financial institutions, businesses as well as civil society and science will discuss the most pressing challenges of water and sanitation.

SIWI’s Executive Director Torgny Holmgren has been invited as a Special Rapporteur and will represent SIWI together with Karin Lexén, Director of World Water Week and Prizes and Sofia Widforss, Programme Manager, International Processes.

By taking part in the dialogue and engaging with actors across sectors, SIWI aspires to enhance collective action and coordinated efforts towards a dedicated goal on water and sanitation in the post-2015 agenda.

During a side event on Wednesday 9 October, UNESCO presented the printed version of the book Free Flow: Reaching Water Security Through Cooperation, to which SIWI’s Dr. Anders Jägerskog contributed the chapter “Transboundary water management – why it is important and why it needs to be developed”.
