SIWI at the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP19 in Warsaw

The nineteenth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP19) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is taking place in Warsaw, Poland between 11 and 22 November.

The annual session, traditionally hosted different countries, with the aim of bringing together Parties to the Convention report back on, develop and negotiate on the UN environmental treaty (UNFCCC). The UNFCCC was initially negotiated at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) held in Rio de Janeiro and informally known as the Earth Summit.

Greater numbers of stakeholders are beginning to realise the centrality of water to climate change adaptation, mitigation and effective sustainable development strategies.  However continued and coordinated support from stakeholders and governments is needed to ensure this recognition is translated into action. SIWI is attending COP19 to work in this area.
